eBooks @Adelaide offers a good sized collection of works, sorted by author/chronologically, for free download in MOBI (Kindle) and EPUB as well as free reading online.  These range from 500BC to 1900AD.
eBooksDirectory has 152 free historical novels in 8 categories.  These are links off site, so download and viewing options vary.

eBooks-Junkie  has 161 free ebooks in its History genre listings.  These are gathered from sites around the web, so download and viewing options vary.  A mix of classic and new.
eBooks on Everything has a small (6 book) collection that has some interesting entries thaat I did not see elsewhere.  All are available for free download in PDF without registration.
ElegantSolutions has an interesting collection of close to 100 free historical books.  All are available for free download in LIT (Microsoft Reader).  Most are classic works, but there are a few modern works mixed in.
ePubBooks has a small collection of free classic historical (non-fiction) novels.  All are available for download in ePUB.  There are links to other download formats, but some of those are pay sites.  They also have a historical fiction section, which contains a larger selection of free novels.

CK12  has a large collection of free textbooks in a 21 different subjects and SAT prep .  All are available for free download in PDF, MOBI or EPUB, after free registration.  The PDFs load immediately.  The MOBI abd EPUB are generated and a download link is emailed to you.  This link is the History section and has 2 free ebooks.
ClassicHistoryBooks offers 6 unique works for online viewing.
Classicly I have not figured out how to show a complete listing of the books here.  If you scroll over book names in the introcutory paragraph, you will find links to a number of free classic novels.  The free book listing only contains 4 works.  In any event, there are about 10 classic historical novels available for download in PDF or KINDLE.  Thanks to Tyler G for this suggestion.

DailyLit offers 31 historical works for free.
DigiLibraries has over 1400 free books in its History category.  The vast majority are available for free download in PDF, MOBI and EPUB as well as free reading online.  I did find one book at the site that was only available in PDF.  Seems to be a mix of classic works and some unique newer entries.  A very nice collection.

Los científicos mostraron que pueden identificar al usuario con una precisión de más de 90% simplemente al mirar cuatro compras que haya hecho, y sólo tres si el precio está incluido. Y eso después de que las compañías han “anonimizado” los datos de las transacciones, diciendo que eliminaron nombres y otros detalles personales.

El estudio del Instituto de Tecnología de Massachusetts (MIT, por sus siglas en inglés), publicado ayer en la revista Science, examinó tres meses de historiales de tarjetas de crédito de 1.1 millón de personas.

“Estamos mostrando que la privacidad que nos han dicho que tenemos no es real”, dijo el coautor del estudio Alex “Sandy” Pentland, del MIT, en un correo electrónico.

Las compañías rutinariamente eliminan identificadores personales de los datos de tarjetas de crédito cuando comparten la información con terceros, y dicen que por ello los datos están ahora más seguros, por estar “anonimizados”. Pero el estudio mostró que anonimizado no es lo mismo que anónimo.

Al examinar un mar de datos de un país desarrollado cuyo nombre no fue identificado, los autores de la investigación armaron la información disponible para ver cuán fácil era identificar a alguien. Analizaron los datos de transacciones en 10 mil tiendas, con marcas de tiempo en cada pieza de información para calcular cuántas piezas de datos eran necesarias como promedio para encontrar a alguien, dijo el principal autor del estudio, Yves-Alexandre de Montjoye, también del MIT.
Los expertos necesitaron solamente cuatro piezas de información, tres en caso de que incluyeran el precio.

Como ejemplo, los investigadores examinaron datos del 23 y el 24 de septiembre y sobre quién visitó una panadería un día y un restaurante al día siguiente. Al examinar los datos, encontraron que solamente podría haber una persona que encajara con esa cuenta y la llamaron Scott. El estudio dice: “Y ahora sabemos todas sus otras transacciones, tales como el hecho de que él se fue a comprar zapatos y alimentos el 23 de septiembre, y cuánto gastó”.

Es más fácil identificar a mujeres, pero el estudio no pudo explicar por qué, dijo de Montjoye.
La investigación muestra que, aunque pensamos que tenemos privacidad cuando se recolecta nuestra información, es realmente una “ilusión”, dijo Eugene Spafford, director del Centro para Educación e Investigación en Garantía y Seguridad de la Información de la Universidad Purdue.

Spafford, que no formó parte del estudio, dice que el mismo “hace que uno se pregunte cuáles deben ser nuestras expectativas de privacidad ahora”.

De hecho, hay amigovios, amigos con derecho a roce, los que están juntos para el fin de semana, o cada uno en su casa. También, por supuesto, las relaciones en línea. Mujeres y hombres adoptan nuevas fórmulas para compartir su amor en estos tiempos.

María Beatriz Pereira Reis, psicóloga de adultos de ISEP Clinic Barcelona, explica cómo funciona este tipo de relaciones del siglo XXI.

JUNTOS SOLO EL “FINDE”

Según Pereira, las relaciones del tipo “juntos el fin de semana” funcionan bajo el concepto de “luna de miel” cada “weekend” y suelen estar formadas por adultos de 25 a 35 años, que están creciendo como profesionales. “Muchas veces deben viajar seguido o estar durante algún tiempo en lugares diferentes a los de su pareja, con lo cual, acuerdan verse el fin de semana como recompensa por estar toda la semana separados”, indica la experta.

“Estas parejas alargan la fase de enamoramiento, ya que la ausencia del otro permite que, al volver a verlo, lo sintamos como si fuera la primera vez, por lo que las emociones suelen ser más intensas que en quienes conviven a diario”, apunta. Además, al compartir tan poco tiempo, sus integrantes tienden a reforzar los aspectos positivos de la relación, y a minimizar las diferencias y conflictos. Sin embargo, hay algunos peligros: sus miembros pueden volverse celosos e inseguros, o muy egoístas con su espacio individual, y aumentar las probabilidades de infidelidad por la distancia física. “Este tipo de relación dificulta la posibilidad de compromiso y avance del vínculo”, explica la psicóloga.

AMIGOS CON DERECHO A ROCE

“Los también llamados amigovios o amigos con derechos a roce, que mantienen relaciones sexuales dentro de un vínculo de menor compromiso formal que un noviazgo, son una relación amorosa y erótica en la que se niega el encuadre matrimonial”, según la profesional. “Los amigovios entran en una categoría especial: no son novios ni amantes, y no existe la posibilidad de un futuro amoroso. En estas relaciones abundan la exploración, las búsquedas y el sexo; todo vale, excepto enamorarse”, enfatiza. Sin embargo, el engaño y la transgresión entre ellos también puede tener un sabor y un sentido particular por lo que, como en todo vínculo, debe haber respeto mutuo y honestidad aun para decirle al otro que la relación ha finalizado, por la razón que sea, remarca la especialista.

Desde el blog de Google anuncian que, a partir de ahora, Google Earth Pro no costará nada, es gratis.

Una herramienta que ha sido usada por empresas e investigadores de todo el mundo durante los últimos 10 años, tanto para analizar terrenos como para planear rutas y construcciones, abre las puertas ahora a todo el mundo, ofreciendo algunas funcionalidades no disponibles en el Google Earth tradicional.

Podemos medir edificios en 3D, imprimir imágenes en alta resolución para presentaciones e informes y grabar vídeos en HD de vuelos virtuales que hagamos por las zonas que deseemos.

Para disfrutar de esta plataforma de forma gratuita, para tener acceso hay que solictar una clave y bajar la aplicaión. Los usuarios de Google Earth Pro existentes no tienen que realizar ningún cambio.
Disponible para Windows y Mac, es una excelente oportunidad para los que trabajan analizando áreas o, simplemente, para los curiosos.
